Sherman Callis wins.

The 24-year-old Temple Hills man arrived at the Georgetown Apple store at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday to stake his claim on the No. 1 spot in line for the latest iteration of the iPhone. This morning, there were hundreds behind hi... m.

Second place would have been unacceptable, Callis said.

"I wouldn't exchange the experience for anything."

It's iPhone day in the D.C. area with hundreds lining up outside Apple store locations in Clarendon and D.C. for the release of the video camera-equipped iPhone 4.

Before the 7 a.m. opening, store employees plied weary customers with water, bagels, blueberry muffins and croissants.

It may be all some get. Rumors swirled in the line stretching down Wisconsin Avenue and up M Street NW this morning about the number of phones available in the store.

One TV station said there could be as few as 10.

At the No. 39 spot in line, Jay Plater-Zyberk, 29, said he's not too concerned. A store manager told people in his section that "we're okay," he said.
